I read to escape, to explore a word outside of my own. I read to comfort myself, to catch up with old friends and make new ones. I read just like I breathe, out of neccessity for the written word. I read because of Mrs. Blume, my elementary school librarian, and Miss Melinda, my small town children's librarian. I read for Lillie, who excitedly bounds in after school to share the latest in her new book obsession, and for Austin, who patiently waits after storytime to share a truck book. I read for Quinn and Ainsley, who play miss kelli and miss dallas at home, and for Tim, who, in the quiet moments, will share with me the funny parts of Jerry Spinelli's latest. I read for Francie Nolan and Anne Shirley. The sneetches, Elizabeth Bennett, and Alex Cross. I read to be a part of something. I read because it's not enough to just simply exist.
